The Cone Beam CT can improve the orthodontic treatment
Although the routine use of CBCT in daily dental practice in orthodontics is controversial, there can be no doubt that its contribution can be essential in some situations such as the localisation of impacted canines, the control and prevention of root resorption, the evaluation of anchoring sites for mini-implants or for corticotomy.
The acquisition of a small volume, e.g. 6X6, is sufficient in children to incorporate both dental arches and for perfectly localising the impacted theet with significant radiation savings.
The orthodontist can however, where he feels it necessary in terms of improving orthodontic treatment, acquire an entire volume for cephalometric evaluation.
