Periodontal diagnosis using Cone Beam CT

Only a clinical examination is needed to diagnose periodontal diseases.
Radiography however can play a role in showing the damage that periodontal disease can cause to bone tissue and for this reason, many periodontal practitioners still perform a complete radiographic status examination of the dental arches that involve subjecting patients to significant doses of radiation

With 3D CBCT imaging, more detailed, complete information can be obtained with much lower radiation exposure to patients than from a standard two-dimensional complete x-ray.
